Arrows point to lower PFM crowns – one bicuspid and the molar behind it. All crowns must look like healthy natural teeth that blend in with their environment, not cheap-to-make ugly white blobs.

Case 8

Mercury amalgam often leaves a bluish discolouration in teeth. The two PFM crowns (arrows) look ‘dirty’. However, they were made to match the bicuspid that has strong ‘bluish’ stain resulting from mercury amalgam -and the patient had no intention to replace that amalgam. The crowns and the amalgam should last for many years.
