Impression 1 – TRIPLE TRAY

This impression is called a Triple Tray impression. Many dentists use them because they are the quickest and cheapest (saving the dentist time and money). However, they are the worst type because they do not show all the important details that good techincians need to do good quality work. Never allow a dentist to use these on you - if he insists, find a better dentist!

Impression 2 – QUADRANT

This impression is called a Quadrant impression. It is a bit better than a Tripe Tray impression because it provides a bit more information for the technician – but not enough. I would not allow a dentist to use either a triple tray or a quadrant impression for me.

Impression 3 – FULL ARCH

This impression is called a Full Arch impression. They are the best type of impression because they give the technician all the important information he needs. This is the only type of impression I would allow a dentist to use for me. That’s great advice, I recommend you follow it. Read more about these in OPEN WIDE – Chapter 5, Let’s find a good dentist – Impressions.
